If you’re traveling to Croatia, will come in handy to know a bit more about their currency. The Kuna is the official currency of Croatia. Its ISO 4217 code is HRK and to mark prices the symbol kn is used. Each Kuna is divided into 100 lipa.
History
In medieval times, marten skins (a mammal similar to badger or weasel) were used as units of exchange. In 1994, after the disintegration of Yugoslavia they began to issue the Kuna which means marten in Croatian, referring to its traditional use.
Notes and coins
Croatian Kuna banknotes are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Kunas. On the front of the banknotes are relevant characters in the story, independence and culture of Croatia. One the reverse are images of different important monuments of the country: Varazdin Castle, the castle of Count Eltz in Vukovar, Dubrovnik’s Old Town, the Church of St. Vid in Rijeka, Osijek headquarters, the Palace of Diocletian Monument to the first Croatian king, Tomislav, respectively.
Croatian Kuna coins are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Lipas and 1, 2, 5 and 25 Kuna. On the Croatian coins you can see animals and plants common in the region.

Remember that, when you come back from your trip, you can exchange your leftover Kuna to Euros in our branches. But remember, just notes. Change your coins before returning or buy some postcards and stamps, they are a nice souvenir to send to family and friends.
